you want 41 points spent most wisely allowing you to purchase shadowstep as soon as you score that 41st talent point so lets look at the sub tree and the talents I chose to get to shadowstep by level 50.
At level 10 you receive your first talent point every leveling guide will tell you spend it ASAP but you want to spend it wisely so purchasing sub spec talents is a win win if your wanting shadowstep by 50 I bought Opportunity first so as to do the most damage as I could as soon as I got the talent points for it.
This guide could drag on and on if I explain why I chose each talent, and what not so I will simply list the talents I got and we will move on
my build is 14/2/41 at 66 (on final imp gouge)

Hindsight being 20/20 looking back its still a bit fuzzy
Now at 66 level or when I reach 70 will I respec and lose ghostly strike for want of say enveloping shadows?
perhaps.
As stated in the beginning of my post this is not concrete sure fire science of do it this way for maximum benefit but its been tested along with other builds and this turns out to be highly favored build by rogues who know how to play a subtle rogue
if you are fast at switching weapons while in combat you could swap out the dagger for a more damaging sword after you ambush as I have heard rogues talk about doing but I have tried and I get error messages saying you are in combat and cannot do that
there was a work around this as in real-time you are still sheathed while you initiate Ambush so an add-on like outfitter allowed to swap from a stealth set of gear to a battle set of gear (ie) swapping dagger for sword once you initiated your ambush and combat started this was a boon of great value as about level 50 the only good weapons are in instances and the rarest is daggers I ran around with a claw from ST till 58 when i got to outland and the 3rd mob we killed dropped a green dagger that was totally an upgrade.

Finally if you enjoy Player verses player and BG's then once you achieve shadowstep get improved gouge and start your career in Assassination as booth ain't got squat on Sub/Sin rogues can you say ninja?
