Step 1
Consider that any time from November through New Year’s is going to be intensely crowded in Rockefeller Center. If you aren’t dying to see the tree lit, you could visit it unlit before the official lighting when it is often significantly less crowded. Obviously, it is less breathtaking this way, but it all depends on how you feel about crowds.

Step 2
Do. Not. Lose. The. People. You. Are. With. I can’t stress this enough. Sidewalks can get so crowded you begin to feel like a school of fish a lot of the time. Hold hands and stop worrying about how silly you think you look doing so. And make sure everyone has everyone else’s cell phone number, for when you inevitably get split up.
-
Step 3
Consider ice skating under the tree. Don’t expect to just walk on the ice, but if you are willing to wait, it’s worth it.

Step 4
Try to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. With multiple shows a day, you’re sure to find a time that works for you. Book tickets in advance or see what you can score the day of, if the show isn’t already sold out. The Christmas Spectacular and seeing the tree go hand-in-hand for lots of New York City Christmas visitors, so see what all the fuss is about. You’ll undoubtedly be in the spirit in no time.
