Step 1
Visit www.davidsbridal.com and browse the website a bit before you go, to get an idea of what kinds of dresses are available.
-
Step 2
Try to go on an off time. Weekends are usually mobbed, with weeknights (and even weekdays) being a much better option for more stress-free shopping and crazed brides, mothers and flower girls running around you. You’ll also have a better time getting a sales associate to work with just you and not have to spread him or herself around to multiple customers.
-
Step 3
Upon entering the store, there should be a table directly in front of you with a smiling employee ready to pounce on you and ask how they can be of assistance. Should this not be the case, head over to the registers and track one down.
-
Step 4
Avoid help. Should you choose to not be assisted during your visit, dart in eyes downwards past the entrance table and head towards either the bridal party section (bridesmaids, mother of the bride and flower girls, generally to the left hand side of most David’s Bridal locations) or the bridal section (bride’s dresses only, generally to the right hand side of most David’s Bridal locations). You’ll have to try your hardest to deter an employee if you are just browsing; they are generally very eager to assist you, get you in a dressing room and in their computer system.
-
Step 5
Get help. Once you’ve gotten a David’s Bridal associate to help you out, let them know what you are looking for. If you’re a bride and have no idea, they can make suggestions. If you’re a bridesmaid and have strict (or vague) instructions from the bride on what kind of dress to get, let them know and they’ll be able to locate the exact style number or a multitude of options.
-
Step 6
Make sure you order your dress as early as you can. They usually give you a promise date about a month after you place the order that your dress is “promised” to be in the store waiting for you. The earlier you place this initial order, the more time there will be for it to come in and for any alterations to be done. The last thing you want to do is cut it too close to the wedding, desperately wondering where your dress is.
-
Step 7
Book an alterations appointment as soon as you receive word your dress is in the store. Alterations are often hard to book as this department is the busiest at David’s Bridal, so get them in as soon as your schedule allows it.
-
Step 8
Speak up during the alterations process. Don’t let them pull it in or take it out too much if you aren’t comfortable with it. You’re the one that has to wear it, so make sure you have a say in how it gets altered for your specific body time.
