How to Golf at Night

Perhaps mowing the lawn and cleaning your grill took you a bit longer than expected. Now, as you watch the sun sink into the horizon, your hopes of playing golf begin to vanish with its dying glow. That is, unless you’re willing to conquer darkness and golf at night. With a little preparation, you can beat the crowds and have the course all to yourself.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Reflectors
  • Flash light
  • Bright clothing
Step1
Choose a lighted course. The simplest option is to play on a course lit by floodlights. Although easy, this alternative does have several drawbacks. First, courses that offer this service are sometimes expensive. Second, there may not be such a course near your location. Finally, you can still lose your ball in the shadows.
Step2
Use luminescent golf balls. Companies now make balls with reactive chemical cores that produce a bright glow and are visible at significant distances. With these, the determined golfer shall fear no shadow.
Step3
Carry a flashlight. Using a flashlight while walking from green to green will keep you from tripping on rugged terrain. Another benefit is eliminating the need to fumble in the dark for your favorite club or to claw at your golf bag for a hidden zipper.
Step4
Coat your clubs with reflectors. Reflective stickers are inexpensive and come in a variety of sizes. Should you drop your club onto the dark grass (or throw it over a hill) one sweep with a flashlight will reveal its resting place. You’ll also look dazzling to your friends while swinging in the moonlight.
Step5
Drive a golf cart with headlights. Parking the cart on a knoll and shining its lights toward the green is a great way to brighten the area. Just be sure to watch for deer.
Step6
Dress in light colors.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure your golf course permits playing at night. Otherwise, you could be arrested for trespassing.
