Candle magic is one of those wonderful things that anyone can do and be successful at. Candles are magical all on their own, and was the only ways to light up the darkness prior to electricity, so it is not surprising that they would be used in magical practices. Just having lit candles around in your home can improve your life, so when you add the actual practice of magic and combine it with candles, you will see some very positive changes.

Things You’ll Need:

Candles
A sharp knife
Sage
A ceramic plate
A list of color correspondences
A list of symbols or words that represent what you'd like to improve in your life

Step1

Decide what you need to improve your life. For some it may be love, or more money, or maybe a job. Whatever it is, choose a candles in a corresponding color, such as red or pink for love, green or gold for money, and dark blue if you are seeking a job.

Step2

Take a sharp knife and carve a symbol in your candle that represents what you are seeking. For love you could carve a heart, a dollar sign for money and so on.

Step3

Light your candles each day and allow them to burn. If you have an altar, this is one of the best places to keep your candles, although not the only place.

Step4

In the room where you have your altar or candles, open a window to allow some air to circulate. Take a sage wand or some sweetgrass and light it with your candle flame, and then after it has burned for a minute or so, blow it out. The reason for the open window is to allow the smoke to escape, the idea being that it will carry your intentions or prayers to the divinity of your choice--or simply the universe--and help you to manifest your desires.

Tips & Warnings

Sage can smolder for a long time so be sure that it is out before you leave a room. The best way to do that is to immerse the smoldering end in sand or grind it against a ceramic plate.
When sage is burning, hot pieces can drop off, so it is best to hold something beneath it, such as a ceramic plate.
If you don’t feel that you know a symbol that represents what you are seeking, you can carve the word into your candle instead of a symbol.
Don’t leave lit candles or smoldering sage unattended. This is a good way to burn down your home.
