How to Make Irish Colcannon

St. Patrick's Day is the perfect time of the year to try out some traditional Irish recipes. Colcannon is a very traditional Irish dish. Colcannon makes an excellent side dish and is fairly easy to make.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Head of Cabbage
  • 2 lbs White Potatoes
  • Onion Large
  • 1 cup of Milk
  • 1 1/2 Sticks of Butter
  • 1/2 Tsp of Parsley
  • Pinch of Pepper
  • Pinch of Salt
  1. Step 1

    Boil the cabbage until it is tender. At the same time boil the potatoes whole until they are tender.

  2. Step 2

    Chop onions and sauté onions in a little bit of butter.

  3. Step 3

    Shred and chop cooked cabbage.

  4. Step 4

    Mash potatoes with milk and butter until smooth.

  5. Step 5

    Fold in onions and cabbage.

  6. Step 6

    Season with pepper, salt and parsley.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add crumbled bacon for an extra flavor
  • Add cooked ham for a heartier dish.
