These are the best tasting chocolate chip cookies and very easy to make.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shortening (Crisco Butter Flavored works well)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (if desired)
  • Baking sheet
  • 2 Bowls
  • Mixer or heavy spoon
  • Tablespoon
  • Measuring Utensils
  • Pot Holders
  • Spatula
  1. Step 1

    Directions:
    PREHEAT oven to 375 F.

  2. Step 2

    Stir together (or sift together) the flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl and set aside.

  3. Step 3

    Add together shortening, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large bowl and beat with mixer (or by hand) until creamy.

  4. Step 4

    Add eggs, one at a time, beating well until completely blended into creamy mixture.

  5. Step 5

    Gradually add in the flour mixture and blend well.

    Stir in chocolate semi-sweet morsels and nuts (if desired). (Using milk chocolate morsels will make the cookies taste much sweeter where as the semi-sweet are best if you prefer a less sweet cookie).

    Drop by rounded tablespoon onto an ungreased baking sheet.

  8. Step 8

    BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on the baking sheet for 1-2 minutes before you remove to wire racks to cool completely.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't want your cookies to come out flat, don't use real butter or margarine. By using the shortening the cookies will keep a fluffier shape when cooking.
  • Replace the Semi-sweet Morsels with either the Butterscotch or Reese's Morsels (cookies will taste sweeter) or use M&M's, regular or Peanut M&M's instead for a different texture and taste.
  • Be sure to let the cookies cool on the sheet for 1-2 minutes before transferring them to a cookie rack for complete cooling.
  • Completely cool your sheet between baking your cookies to eliminate the edges of your cookies burning. Run under cold water and then dry to cool down the sheet quickly.
