How to Find a "Green" Hotel in Denver

Denver, site of 2008’s Democratic Convention, has positioned itself as a “green” town. This is helping attract environmentally-conscious travelers, which means BIG money for the town. Hotels, restaurants, print shops and all kinds of service-based businesses are rapidly jumping on the “green” bandwagon. How do you find a “green” hotel in Denver? There are a growing number of resources to help, so read on.

    First, decide how “green” you want your hotel to be. There are varying degrees to choose from.

  2. Step 2

    Check out the Green Hotel Association. A good resource for the different shades of green, it details what green practices each member hotel has (see Resources below).

  3. Step 3

    An article in the Denver Post highlighted the need to promote Denver’s “green” hotels and listed several examples (see Resources below).

  4. Step 4

    According to Jenna Six, Education Director of the Alliance of Sustainable Colorado, there is a list of Denver’s green hotels. Click on the “Vendor Directory,” then peruse to find your choice (see Resources below).

  5. Step 5

    Several hotels stand out among Denver’s green hotels. The Hotel Monacco, which earned a 4-star rating for “green-ness,” is a leader in eco-standards in the hospitality industry (see Resources below).

    There are 12 small communities surrounding Denver. Only a short drive away from downtown, they include places like Lakehead, Aurora, Wheatridge, Arvada and Boulder. Don’t be afraid to look in these communities for great hotels.
