Things You'll Need:
- Internet access
-
Step 1
First, decide how “green” you want your hotel to be. There are varying degrees to choose from.
-
Step 2
Check out the Green Hotel Association. A good resource for the different shades of green, it details what green practices each member hotel has (see Resources below).
-
Step 3
An article in the Denver Post highlighted the need to promote Denver’s “green” hotels and listed several examples (see Resources below).
-
Step 4
According to Jenna Six, Education Director of the Alliance of Sustainable Colorado, there is a list of Denver’s green hotels. Click on the “Vendor Directory,” then peruse to find your choice (see Resources below).
-
Step 5
Several hotels stand out among Denver’s green hotels. The Hotel Monacco, which earned a 4-star rating for “green-ness,” is a leader in eco-standards in the hospitality industry (see Resources below).
-
Step 6
There are a number of other websites to help you make a great choice. One has 5 listings, 4 of which have more green practices (see Resources below).
-
Step 7
Check out Co-op America’s “Green pages” for green hotels (see Resources below).
-
Step 8
There are 12 small communities surrounding Denver. Only a short drive away from downtown, they include places like Lakehead, Aurora, Wheatridge, Arvada and Boulder. Don’t be afraid to look in these communities for great hotels.
The Boulder Outlook Hotel has a truly green set-up. With a goal of zero waste management, this former Holiday Inn’s 2 indoor climbing rocks, chlorine-free indoor pool, spa and cascading waterfall are surprise finds.
Denver is a terrific place to visit, whatever the reason. And finding a green hotel is getting easier all the time.
