Country guitar is just one of the forms of guitar playing that is well-known in the music world and practiced among guitar players everywhere. Learning the basics will help build your technique and repertoire. What is referred to as the Major Highways is a great starting point for learning to play country guitar.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Understand the concept of major highways, or learning the way of the major chords, but with a little twist. These are important to know when learning to play country guitar. This should be incorporated after you are familiar with playing acoustic guitar.
Step2
Create the major highways by leaving some of the notes in the major chords out. Start on E and go slowly down and back up through the notes. Listen for good places to leave out notes, like the natural seven.
Step3
Play with the sounds and notes on each chord to find the ones that can be naturally left out without disrupting the flow of the sound.
Step4
Practice this technique to get it down before starting to play with it more. You want to make sure you are familiar with the correct sound and how the major highways should be, before making the technique more complicated by combining it with other techniques and sounds.
