How to Deal With a Teacher You Don't Like

It is inevitable that you will have at least one mean teacher in your schooling career. Teachers you don't like are difficult to deal with and can make school miserable if you act out against them. Be consoled in the fact that you only have to deal with this teacher for one year, and try your hardest to be a model student to make school life easier.

1. Be diligent about following school and class rules. Do not give the teacher any reason to be on your case or find things to pick on you for.
2. Have all of the required supplies on hand and ready for use. Keep pencils sharpened, make sure pens have ink and your binder is full of paper. Keep a personal pencil sharpener at your desk so you don't disrupt the teacher and class while sharpening pencils.
3. Arrive to class punctually. Come a few minutes early, and get your books and supplies set up so you are prepared when class starts.
4. Give your full attention to the teacher. Ask questions pertaining to the subject matter so the teacher can tell you are listening. Do not pass notes or talk while your teacher is presenting material to the class.
5. Finish homework and turn it in daily. Stay on task during class. Don't be afraid to ask the teacher for clarification on confusing questions. Attend tutoring sessions when they are available. Show your teacher that you are diligently trying to learn the subject matter.
6. Show the teacher respect. Address the teacher as "Sir" or "Ma'am" when asking questions and giving responses. Never argue with a teacher, politely accept her comments and move on. Take up grievances with a guidance counselor or parent instead of confronting the teacher.
7. Acknowledge the teacher in the classroom and hallways by greeting him with a hello and saying good bye when you leave. Smile at the teacher when you catch his eye. Give small treats to the teacher on his birthday and holidays.
