How to Join a Cricket Team

Cricket is a sport that involves skills very similar to baseball. However, the similarity between the two sports ends there. A baseball fan listening to a news report describing an important cricket match will look just as dumbfounded as a cricket fan listening to the radio play by play of a baseball game. One way to learn about cricket is to play the game while learning about it. There are a great many who think its the greatest game around.

Instructions

1. Learn at least cricket's rudimentary rules and its basic terms. For example, you need to understand that in cricket, the field of play is called a "pitch." But in baseball, a pitch is called a "bowl." American sports fans can be further confused because "off side" is unrelated to football's "offsides." It is a cricket term that refers to what in baseball would be considered an outside pitch.

2. Go to the website of the United States of America Cricket Association. See what region you live in. Then check to see what leagues exist your area.

3. Contact the team closest to your home. Tell them of your interest in joining the team. Don't try to pull the wool over anyone's eyes about how much you know, but continue to study.

4. Attend a practice of one of the teams. Show that you have reasonable athletic skills, that you are interested, and that you are--above all else--trainable.

5. Decide where your skills lie--as a batsman, a spin bowler or even for a time a gopher. Polish your skills. Continue to learn.
