Essential oils taken from plants are used to soothe the body and soul through aromatherapy. Whether you're stressed out, suffering from insomnia or nursing a sore back, there's a scent to alleviate what ails you. While yet to be scientifically proven, many medical professionals are now starting to study the effects more closely.

Things You'll Need:

    Use Aromatherapy Essential Oils

  1. Step 1

    Add essential oil to a room diffuser to spread the scent throughout the room or house. Steam water in a pot and add the oil to spread the aroma without a diffuser.

  2. Step 2

    Drop a few drops of essential oil into your bath. Use invigorating scents to awaken and refresh. Select calming oils to aid in relaxation.

  3. Step 3

    Put a drop of essential oil on a log before you put it in the fireplace. Add the log before lighting the fire, it fills the room with the aroma.

  4. Step 4

    Fuse the aromatherapy oil with a small amount of warm or cold water. Soak a washcloth in the solution. Ring the cloth out, and use as a warm or cold compress on any part of your body.

  5. Step 5

    Mix a small amount of aromatherapy oil with warm water in a spray bottle. Spray around the room, on carpets, furniture or drapery.

    Spread the aroma of chamomile to treat allergies, insomnia, stress, swelling or digestive problems.

  8. Step 2

    Use almond oil to treat dry, irritated, itchy or inflamed skin.

  9. Step 3

    Try lemon balm to relieve anxiety, hypertension, depression, insomnia, asthma, bronchitis and colds.

  10. Step 4

    Buy cypress oil to relieve anger, irritability and stress-related conditions such as pre-menstrual syndrome, life changing events or just a stress-filled day.

  11. Step 5

    Find Rosemary essential oils for aromatherapy healing of congestion, circulation problems, pain, swelling, indigestion and gas.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't use oils on polished surfaces.
  • Aromatherapy oils are flammable. Be careful using them around open flames.
