How to Do a Revert on a Skateboard

A skateboarding revert is a trick that allows you to turn around with the skateboard still under your feet so you are merely changing skating directions. A skater would need to do a revert if he has done a trick that has turned him around so the back of the board (tail) is moving forward first. The idea is to get the nose turned back around front.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Perform a skate trick such as a fakie (you appear to be skating forward, but are doing so with the board tail in the front and the nose in back) or go up a ramp, then move back down the ramp backwards with the tail moving forward.

  2. Step 2

Put your weight on the foot in front (the one on the tail of the board) and lighten up on the foot that is on the nose of the board. This will make the nose of the board come off the ground slightly, enough to let you turn the board under your feet.

  3. Step 3

Twist your body to make the nose of the board turn so that it replaces the tail as the part of the board in front. Think of it as a 180 that doesn't get any air between it and the ground.

  4. Step 4

Look ahead so that you are again moving forward with the nose at the front and the tail at the back.

Tips & Warnings
  • A revert can be done either while skating on a flat surface or on a ramp or half-pipe. It can also be combined as part of another trick like a hardflip.
