How to Decorate Guest Towels

Decorating guest towels with a unique design is a wonderful way to personalize them for every taste and occasion. Use iron-on patches, embroidered appliqués, your favorite fabric or ribbon to enhance otherwise lackluster towels. Not only are they a fun way to get creative, they also make wonderful gifts and are sure to impress any guest.

Instructions

1. Choose towels by considering where they'll go and how they'll be used. For example, if decorating Easter themed hand towels for a bathroom, keep the towels a lighter color and make them small in size. If simply adding fabric trim to a set of towels, purchase a whole set of towels in a color to match the bathroom in which they'll be displayed.

2. Pick a theme or color scheme for your towels. There are thousands of options. Themes include sports, religious, holiday, child or western, for example.

3. Select the decorating method. If you can sew, you can add many types of appliqués or trim to towels. If an easy glue gun is more your style, glue all types of embellishments or ribbon trim to your towels. There are also iron-on embellishments of all kinds available. You can find all of these at your local craft store.

4. Prepare the towels. Remove "sizing" by washing and drying them without fabric softener or dryer sheets and make sure to iron them. This ensures the decorations will adhere properly and that the towels will look crisp and wrinkle-free.

5. Measure and mark where the decorations will go to ensure symmetrical placement. This is especially important if your towels will be displayed as a set. You don't want the fabric trim on one towel to be an inch higher than the matching one.

6. Sew, glue or iron-on your decorations of choice. Repeat application to all towels in the set.
