The Bible teaches Christians about every facet of life. Identifying false prophets is one of these teachings. The ability to identify a false prophet is important because a false prophet can lead a Christian away from the will of God.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Read the Bible daily. The Bible is the written word of God that Christians use to know the will of God. It is God's will that Christians deny false prophets.
Step2
Buy a book to help you learn the Bible if you are unsure about how to study the Bible. Some churches may have books to help you better understand the Bible.
Step3
Consider the message of the person claiming to be a prophet. A true prophet will use factual interpretations of Bible scripture. A false prophet usually tries to add things to the Bible.
Step4
Pray about the person claiming to be a prophet. Ask God to give you guidance. Look to the Psalms for some helpful prayers or inspiration.
Step5
Ask a member of clergy to help you to determine if the person is a false prophet. Pastors, priests and deacons can guide you to specific places in the Bible that will help you to make the right determination.
Step6
Think about their motivation. God teaches Christians in the Bible that a true prophet will prophesy only things that are the will of God. A false prophet will often try to lead Christians astray for his own personal gain.
Step7
Look at history. A false prophet will often repeat the claims of a past false prophet in the hope that the claim will soon become reality.
