To ensure that all visitors to their websites are accessible, many web designers create their text with relative, rather than absolute sizes. Relative sizes allow visitors to resize the text on a web page for easier reading. In Mozilla Firefox, you can increase or decrease the text size for a particular web browsing session temporarily or permanently.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

    Determine an Appropriate Text Size

  1. Step 1

Determine the text size that you want to use as a default. To change the text size, from the Menu, click "View" and then click "Text Size."

  2. Step 2

Decrease the text size by clicking "Decrease." You can also use the keyboard command "Ctrl + [-]" to decrease the size.

  3. Step 3

You can increase and decrease text often and easily. From the menu, click "View," then "Text Size" and "Increase." Or, from your keyboard, press "Ctrl + [+]" to increase the text size. Click "View," "Text Size" and "Normal" or from the keyboard. Press "Crtl + [0]" to return to the default text size.

  4. Step 4

View the page to determine if the new size is acceptable to you. If it isn't, repeat this process until you find a default size you like. If you only want to change the text size for one web browsing session, use this method. If you want to change the text size permanently, continue to the next section.

  5. Change Default Text Size Permanently

  6. Step 1

From the menu, click "Tools," and then click "Options." The Options dialog box appears.

  7. Step 2

Access the "Content" tab. You can change the font size from the "Fonts & Colors" area.

  8. Step 3

Select the "Font" and "Font Size" that you want to use as your new default. Websites that do not have specified a font will display text using the font and size you have selected.

  9. Step 4

Click "Advanced." To force all websites to use a particular minimum text size, choose a minimum size in the "Minimum Font Size" drop-down box. To force all websites to use your default text size, clear the "Allow pages to choose their own fonts," instead of "My selections above option."

  10. Step 5

Click "OK" to close the Advanced dialog box. Click "OK" again to close the Options dialog box.
