The fun of wakeboarding is having the ability of riding different stances and learning tricks from each stance. Some of the different stances are riding heel side, toe side or switch. The steps below will teach you how to ride the stances previously mentioned while wakeboarding.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Wakeboard with bindings
  • Wakeboard rope with handle
  • Ski boat

Normal Heel Side Stance

Step1
Hold on to the rope in a crouching position, with your knees pulled in close to your body.
Step2
Let the water pull you up out of the water. Keep the wakeboard straight across your body until you begin to stand up.
Step3
Turn the board to an angle with the right foot forward. Keep your knees bent.

Toe Side to the Right Hand Side

Step1
Stand up on the wakeboard in a normal boarding stance.
Step2
Turn your body to the right with the left foot forward. The front side, or toe side, of the board is facing backwards away from the boat.
Step3
Put your weight on your toes. The toe side of the wakeboard is digging into the water. Your upper body is twisted around to the left.

Riding Switch

Step1
Pull up out of the water.
Step2
Turn your body to the left. You'll have to let go of the rope with your left hand.
Step3
Grab the rope from behind and lean forward, away from the boat.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ensure the rope is on top of the wakeboard before the boat begins to pull you up.
  • Keep your elbows bent and your weight to the back.
  • Riding switch is just like riding your normal stance but backwards. Practice your switch on land with the rope tied to a tree.
