How to Do the Impossible Location Trick With a Svengali Deck

Contributor
By eHow Contributing Writer

In a Svengali deck half of the cards are the same (the dominate card) and the rest are different. The dominate cards are slightly shorter than the rest of the deck. This is undetectable and the cards look like a regular deck. When you flip the Svengali deck one way you see all the different cards and if you flip it the other way you see only the dominate card.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Flip the deck with the card faces facing your friend or audience and ask them to tell you when to stop. Because it is a trick Svengali deck, no matter when they say to stop, the dominant card (let's say the Queen of Hearts in this case) will be the card on top and will be the card they choose.

  2. Step 2

Place this dominant card (the Queen of Hearts) into the middle of the deck.

  3. Step 3

Keep one of the other duplicate Queen of Hearts cards in the front of the deck.

  4. Step 4

Put the deck back into the box.

  5. Step 5

Squeeze the box slightly to buckle the top duplicate card, and then close the box so that the duplicate card is outside of the flap in the box.

  6. Step 6

Place the box into your shirt pocket so that the card faces are facing toward you.

  7. Step 7

Reach into your pocket and grab the card in the front flap of the box, which is a duplicate of the card they chose (the Queen of Hearts). Show them the back of the card and then turn it around to reveal the Queen of Hearts.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't have a shirt pocket you can put the box behind your back
  • You can cheat and have a Queen of Hearts already in your pocket before you do this trick.
