The type of boot you wear while sport bike riding determines two important factors: your safety and risk of injury. Your feet are very vulnerable to injury while riding a sport bike and you want to make sure they are well-protected in case of an accident. You also use your boots for switching gears and braking, so while your boots should protect your feet, they also need to be flexible and have a secure grip.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit a local sporting goods store that carries specific boots for sport bikes. You can purchase sport bike boots online but it's helpful to try them on in the store to get a good fit.

  2. Step 2

Try on a sport bike boot that at least comes up over your ankle bone, preferably mid-calf. Look for boots that have extra padding around the ankle for more protection and support and adjustable Velcro straps for comfort and fit.

  3. Step 3

Check the front of the boot that will protect your shin. Make sure there is some kind of protection around your shin, like foam padding or carbon fiber. Also check that the heel and toe of the boot are both well-protected.

  4. Step 4

Look for waterproof boots. Gore-Tex boots last longer and work in any type of weather without risk of damage or wet feet.

  5. Step 5

Examine the sole of the boot. You want a thick, rubber sole with a good grip. Walk around in the boots to feel the sturdiness of them as well as the fit.

  6. Step 6

Find out if the boot manufacturer replaces parts that wear out. This can save you money in the end and prevent you from having to purchase replacement boots too soon.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't completely disregard a pair of boots if they don't fit comfortably while walking around. The main purpose of sport bike boots is to protect you in case of an accident and give you good traction while riding--you won't be wearing them all day.
