The spell magic card trick is ideal for children to learn and perform. The trickiest part is prearranging the cards. Students can memorize this little story to help them set up. Exactly 387 years ago, there lived a queen that was 64 years old. She had two children, Jack and King. Jack was ten and King was nine and they were both in fifth grade.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Prepare the deck of cards before there is an audience by removing and arranging the following 13 cards in the order given: three, eight, seven, ace, queen, six, four, two, jack, king, ten, nine and five.

  2. Step 2

Deal the 13 cards one at a time back on top of the deck, which reverses the specified order.

  3. Step 3

Wait for the audience to arrive. Pretend to shuffle the deck or give a false cut without disturbing the top 13 cards.

  4. Step 4

Count out and remove the top 13 cards from the deck one by one. Place them face down in a pile in the specified sequence. Set aside the remainder of the deck.

  5. Step 5

Start by spelling ace and continue in sequential order. Shuffle a card for each letter from the top of the pile to the bottom.

  6. Step 6

Flip over the top card once the card for the final letter of the name or number is complete. Show the audience that the card is the one that was just spelled out.

  7. Step 7

Continue to spell, shuffle and flip the resulting top card over for the audience in sequential order until the queen is shown.

  8. Step 8

State that the final card in the performers hand must be a king, no need to spell it. Display magic for the audience in that the final card completes the set from ace to king.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cards suits don't matter when prearranging the top 13 cards of the deck. However, mixed suits add color and make the trick more visibly interesting.
