Two-touch passing in soccer is the basic passing skill needed to move the ball down the field. Two-touch passing teaches passing, dribbling, receiving and trapping all in one quick drill that can be used at any age and experience level.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stagger five cones in a zig-zag formation about 10 yards apart.

  2. Step 2

Place a player at each cone. The player on the end closest to the sideline will start with the ball.

  3. Step 3

Have one player kick the ball diagonally to another player waiting at one of the cones. That player will trap the ball with the inside of the foot and prepare it to be passed diagonally to another player at the next cone. After each pass, the passer sprints toward the player he passed to and takes their spot at the cone.

  4. Step 4

Trap the ball and prepare to pass to the next player at the next cone. Pass the ball and sprint to the cone after the pass.

  5. Step 5

Keep passing the ball until the last person at the last cone receives it. That players dribbles the ball back to the original cone and starts the drill again.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have players make all passes and traps with the side of the foot, not the toe or the instep.
  • Once players get comfortable with the drill, have them trap with the left foot and pass with the right. Or vice versa.
  • When working with young players or unskilled players, don't have them run after the ball. Start with trapping and passing from a stationary stance.
