Characterized by sensual lyrics and gyrating dance moves, reggaeton is a form of music with its own dance style that was first made famous among young Latinos in the early 1990s. A combination of genres, from hip hop to merengue, reggaeton is hitting the scene across America. The groove part reggaeton move is just one of many that you can add to your routine today.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep your body movements smooth and relaxed throughout the groove and other reggaeton steps, as this style of dance is characterized by an elastic-like quality. Practice the steps one at a time, and once you have perfected them, begin to work on speed and fluidity.

  2. Step 2

Begin the groove with your feet about hip width apart. Lift onto the toes of your right foot as you bend your knee in slightly towards your centerline. As you lift your foot, turn your heel out to accentuate the movement. Repeat on the left side and continue the movement, alternating sides, following the beat of the music.

  3. Step 3

Give the groove some style by adding your arms. With your elbows turned out, form your hands into fists and make circular motions with your hands around your lower abdomen. The circles should move in towards your body, drawing your hands together, and then come out and up. You should make one full circle with each hand each time your lift a foot, so that the height of your leg lift meets with the low point of your circular motions.

  4. Step 4

Use the groove part reggaeton dance step as a transition move between other techniques in your routine, or as a place to start when stepping out onto the dance floor.
