Queuing up a record is one of the top skills for a DJ. Setting up the sequence of songs between multiple turntables requires the queue to be done smoothly and with as little break as possible. DJs set up the turntables according to a playlist in order to create a free-flowing style of non-stop audio enjoyment by dropping the mix from the queued-up vinyl.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Hold the record on the turntable by pushing out and then in. The movement keeps the record in position while waiting for the right moment of release.

  2. Step 2

Keep a light touch on the vinyl. Too much pressure will make the record bounce and skip and throw off the even transitions between tunes.

  3. Step 3

Count the pre-determined beats. DJs have to listen to songs over and over again until the beats of each become familiar enough he can slip from one tune to the next unnoticed by the audience.

  4. Step 4

Use a bass or snare sound in between tunes to cover the changeover. This little audio masking lets one song slip under another while the volume decreases on the first song and increase on the second song.
