Step 1
Choose the object ball that you want to shoot. Using lefthand English will cause the ball to act as if you cut it to the right. The degree of cut that you desire will determine the amount of English that you apply to the cue ball.

Apply English to the cue ball by striking it to give it right spin. When the cue ball strikes the object ball it will translate the spin and make the object ball move left. To apply lefthand English, your cue should strike the cue ball just left of dead center. The degree of English that you need to use will determine how far off-center you strike the cue ball. Don't hit the cue ball too far off-center or you may miscue, costing you the shot.

Step 3
Take a few practice strokes of the cue stick before your actual shot. Remember to not over-emphasize the stroke or take your eye from the ball. Both of these actions will cause you to make a bad shot. In some games, it only takes one bad shot for your opponent to win.
