Pool players need to be familiar with all aspects of the game for peak performance. Using the bridge correctly is a prerequisite to move beyond the beginner level of pool playing. The bridge allows a pool player to get on top of the ball and the elevated bridge extends the player's shot selection and range.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Practice the extended bridge by setting up a scenario where the sought after ball is blocked and in a rather hard-to-reach location.

  2. Step 2

Place the index and middle fingers in an extended position with the thumb firmly supporting the hand, and tuck the ring finger and little finger back out of the way. This elevates the pool cue above the level of the blocking ball.

  3. Step 3

Press the index and middle fingers down as hard as possible to give stability to the bridge. Pull the thumb back to its usual position.

  4. Step 4

Create a V shape with your index and middle fingers. This is the bridge.

  5. Step 5

Rest the cue on top of the bridge above the ball. The cue should fit snugly in the area of the hand where the index and middle fingers join, but have room to slide. The bridge should always remain firm while both setting up the shot and during the follow through.

  6. Step 6

Make the shot and sink the target ball.
