Removing excess oils from the feet during a pedicure is necessary to a beautiful and long-lasting end result. It's tempting to take shortcuts when you're doing a pedicure at home, but doing so will result in a sloppy final result. You don't have to skip fragrant massage oils when you do a pedicure. You simply have to make sure you clean your toes and feet thoroughly before applying nail polish.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Moisten a cotton ball with acetone.

  2. Step 2

Dab the cotton ball over the entire nail to remove the oils.

  3. Step 3

Repeat Step 2 on each nail. Use as many fresh cotton balls as needed to do a thorough job.

  4. Step 4

Wipe each nail with a dry cotton ball to remove any acetone traces.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's important to remove the acetone because leftover acetone can eat at the nail polish after it dries, ruining your pedicure. However, you still need to use acetone because any leftover oily residue will make it difficult for the nail polish to adhere to your nails.
  • You can use cotton balls soaked in acetone to remove oils before a manicure as well. Also, wipe the skin around the nails on either the hands or feet to prevent oil on the skin from running back onto the nails. Just make sure you complete the pedicure before a manicure if you're doing both yourself.
  • Avoid rubbing the skin around your nails if you have a cut. The acetone will cause burning if you have a cut.
