Competition in wrestling takes on a whole new meaning when a young wrestler truly grasps all the fundamentals of wrestling and drills the technique until he knows it cold. He performs the necessary skill and power to throw his opponent to the mat, as described in these steps.

Wrestling Optional Start

Step1
Decide as a top wrestler whether you want to apply the optional start at the beginning of the wrestling. The option to apply a different start means you allow the bottom wrestler a chance to escape from you.
Step2
Signal the referee that you want to do the option of letting the bottom wrestler get away from you--escape. To signal you place the forefingers and thumbs together by touching the tips, forming a diamond.
Step3
Show the diamond to the referee by holding it up high, so he knows your decision to do the optional start. Once the referee blows the whistle after the signal, you make the choice as the top wrestler to push the bottom wrestler away or ride it.

Wrestling Hip Heist

Step1
Use a hip heist to counter the top wrestler.
Step2
Hit a move that switches your body position and uses your powerful hip force to take control of the top wrestler.
Step3
Move your far hip, so it hits the mat immediately. This places a distance between the bottom wrestler and the top wrestler.
Step4
Make the move in an explosive fashion; causing opens legs for a dynamite attack.
Step5
Lean the top hip into the opponent by causing pressure with your weight.
Step6
Make sure you clear your hips to perform a reversal or escape.
Step7
Keep breathing to help your body maintain stamina in the match.

Wrestling Ideal Double

Step1
Make this move after performing the hip heist and go for the take down.
Step2
Lead with the strongest leg that penetrates with each step.
Step3
Place your arms behind the other wrestler's knees, known as his knee hinges.
Step4
Chop the hinges of the knees and drive the shoulders forward, taking the opponent down on the mat.
