One of the most basic golf fundamentals is the grip of the golf club. The grip you get on the club affects how much control you have over the club and therefore affects the accuracy and power of your golf shots. There are several steps left-handed golfers should follow to correctly grip a golf club.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place your right hand onto the golf club. The end of the club should be situated in the middle of the heal of your palm.

  2. Step 2

Extend your thumb. Stretch your right thumb out so it's parallel to the club. This should form a V shape between your thumb and your index finger. Rotate your hand so this V points toward your left shoulder.

  3. Step 3

Put your left hand onto to the golf club. A left-handed golfer should grip the club by placing her left hand over the thumb of her right hand. The palm should cover the thumb about where the lifeline is. Extend your left thumb to make another V shape.

  4. Step 4

Rotate your left hand so the V shape points to your left shoulder. Now, both hands should have V shapes and both V shapes should be pointing toward your left shoulder.

  5. Step 5

Hold the club firmly, but not too firm. Imagine the firmest you could possibly grip the golf club and the softest you could possible grip it. Your grip should be about half way between these two extremes.

  6. Step 6

Form an interlocking grip. To do this, a left-handed golfer should take his left pinky and place it between the index and middle fingers of his right hand. He should then bring down his right index finger to hold down the pinky.

Tips & Warnings
  • A good way to check to see if your hands are rotated properly is to look at your knuckles. If you have a proper grip on the golf club, you'll see the knuckles on your right index and middle fingers by looking straight down.
