Step 1
Step forward with your right leg as you squat down into the kung fu small mountain climbing stance. As you step forward, turn your toes in. This foot position will turn your upper thigh in, helping to protect your groin area. It will also set up your knee to fall in, protecting it from major injury in case you are kicked.

Step 2
Squat down far enough that your left knee is just barely above the ground. Your back foot should be resting on curled toes. At this point, both of your legs should be bent at 90 degree angles, your body crouching down to the ground.

Step 3
Keep your back tall and straight during the stance. Lift your right arm out straight in front of you. Hold your fist with your thumb out and your knuckles facing down. Bend your left arm and place your palm on your forearm just above your elbow.

Step 4
Practice the kung fu small mountain stance on both sides of your body to help build strength in your legs. Once mastered, you can fall quickly into this stance while throwing the punch.
