Kung fu is a Chinese martial art form which was originally developed as a form of protection and self-defense. With many different variations, kung fu has become popular worldwide and is taught as a defense method, for fitness and as a competitive sport. With a few tips, you can begin practicing a few of the leopards style kung fu hand strikes.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a leopard's fist method for kung fu hand strikes to help guide your strike to small spaces on your opponent's body, such as the rib cage, the shoulders and the throat. Curl your knuckles under so that your first knuckles, nearest your palm, are held straight out. Lift the knuckle of your forefinger slightly higher than the rest for greater impact.

  2. Step 2

Bring your fingers tightly together, bending at the second knuckle to make a hook, or a leopard's claw with your hand. Use the leopard's claw in kung fu for grabs or tears.

  3. Step 3

Form a fist and extend your forefinger up slightly to create the Phoenix eye. This hand strike method is used for smaller targets, such as the space between the eye and the ear or for the eyes themselves.

  4. Step 4

Hold your thumbs in tight to your palms with your fingers extended straight to form the kung fu knife hand. Use the side of your hand in a chopping motion for striking the neck, the ribcage and other areas of the body.

  5. Step 5

Use these hand strike methods in combat, competition or self-defense to increase the adaptability and strength behind your defense techniques.
