Chinese martial arts, such as kung fu, are a key part of Chinese culture and have become extremely popular worldwide. Kung fu is not only taught as a fitness method, a form of self-defense and as a competitive sport, it is also taught as a way of life and a means of self-growth. The crescent kick and roundhouse kick are common kicks in kung fu often used in combination.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin in kung fu mountain climbing stance to begin your crescent and roundhouse kick combination. Stand with your fists knuckles up at your waist and your elbows held in tight to your body. Your dominant leg should be about 1 1/2 feet behind your body and lifted slightly onto the ball of your foot, ready to strike. Bend at the knees and place your weight onto your front leg with your front foot angled slightly in.

  2. Step 2

Lift your fists to the centerline of your body with your dominant fist slightly below your non-dominant hand. With your weight on your front leg, swing your back leg forward, lifting high with your toes pointing. Your target should be high and directly in front of you. After reaching your target, continue the circular motion of the inside crescent kick, and bring your foot in next to your planted foot.

  3. Step 3

Repeat the kick in reverse to perform the outside crescent kick and end with your foot behind you, returning to your mountain climbing stance with your hands still up in defense position.

  4. Step 4

Complete the kung fu kick combination with a roundhouse kick. Lift your back leg, bending your knee in close to your chest. Swing your foot out to your target with your toes pointing and pull back in quickly to your bent leg position. Release the leg behind you, returning to mountain climbing stance.
