Hot Sticks are a brand of drumsticks first created in 1979. Made from premium hickory, the process of making Hot Sticks allows the wood to retain moisture so the drumsticks do not break easily. Using the right Hot Sticks while drumming allows the drummer to create a higher quality of sound.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find the size of drumstick that is comfortable for you. A variety of drumstick types and sizes are available depending on the type of music you play. Concert and speed sticks are small and allow for quick, light hits. Band sticks have a larger diameter with a medium-sized head making them good for a variety of musical styles. Street drumsticks are the largest size and allow for long use and loud strokes.

  2. Step 2

Pick the tip style you prefer. Tips for drumsticks are made with plastic or wood in varying sizes.

  3. Step 3

Choose speciality sticks and mallets. These drumsticks give different variations on sounds. A power brush is made of long, thin strips of wood bound together. They give a hollow, multi-stick sound. Wire brushes provide a soft, smooth sound.

  4. Step 4

Check all drumsticks for warping before using them. A warped stick causes the drummer to do more work when trying to create a specific beat.

  5. Step 5

Roll on the drum with your selected Hot Stick. This allows you to check the balance and weight of the stick.

  6. Step 6

Play various beats and rhythms around and across the drum head. This lets you hear the variety of sounds available with the drumstick.

  7. Step 7

Practice with various sticks before you decide to use a specific Hot Stick.
