A home theater system improves the quality and enjoyment of a TV or movie viewing experience. A home theater system has various inputs for equipment to meet your entertainment system needs. Understanding these inputs properly is the key to quality sound and video.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Move the system box to access the back of the system easily. The home theater system box needs to be near the television so the cables easily reach the inputs.
Step2
Locate the video and audio inputs for your DVD or VHS player. These inputs are yellow, white and red to match the wires that come with the DVD or VHS. The inputs are marked "Video in" and "Audio in." Some older models of DVD and VHS players use coaxial cable. The home theater system has a coaxial input marked "Video in."
Step3
Place the surround sound speakers in their appropriate spots around the room. Most home theater speakers come with ample wire for each speaker. If you need longer wires, purchase them at your local electronics store. Run the wires from the speakers to the back of the home theater system.
Step4
Secure each speaker wire in the correct input. The inputs are marked with the speaker's location such as "R" for right, "C" for center and "L" for left.
Step5
Set your subwoofer below the television. Run the wire to the input. The input is marked with "Sub" or "S."
Step6
Plug your TV into the home theater system. The inputs for the TV are marked "Video out." There are standardized wires and coaxial inputs on all home theater systems so they work with all TVs. If you use satellite or cable, plug the TV into the satellite or cable box. Plug the box into the home theater system.

Tips & Warnings

  • Game systems also plug into the home theater system.
