A homecoming mum is a sign that someone cares for the wearer. They are often lavish in both size and decoration. Worn in the middle of the chest, they often have streamers flowing from them that can touch the ankles as well as creative adornments to the mum and mum base itself. The following details how to attach a mum to the base.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place all finishing touches to the base. Items such as the nest, braids, streamers, ribbon curls, and other types of adornments that attach to the base should be placed before putting the mum onto the base.

  2. Step 2

Take the mum out of the package and open it. Fluff it a bit to make sure it is spread out and sturdy.

  3. Step 3

Verify the size of the mum is correct for the base. Insert the mum into the base to make sure that all of the nest and streamer staples are covered.

  4. Step 4

Use hot glue or super glue on the base. Do not be afraid to use liberal amounts of glue on the base. Spread the glue all over the areas where the mum is going to attach to the base.

  5. Step 5

Insert the mum's stem into the hole in the center of the base.

  6. Step 6

Press firmly on both the mum and the back of the base. If you used hot glue, be careful because the base will get warm. Hold the mum and base in your hands while pressing both together. This allows the stem to poke out of the base while also allowing the mum to keep its shape.
