Things You'll Need:
- Floor mats
- Safety gear
-
Step 1
Get into the sugar foot stance. Stand with one foot in front of the other at shoulder's distance apart. Turn your body toward the front foot. Your back foot faces sideways and your front foot faces the opponent. Bend your knees and lean your upper body forward with your hands in ready position.
-
Step 2
Fall back onto the hip of your leading or front foot. Place your hand in front of your body as you fall. Dig your hip into the mat. At this point you are flat on the mat facing your opponent.
-
Step 3
Use your hands and elbows to push your body away from your opponent. Move back about 3 to 5 feet.
-
Step 4
Stand back up and get into the sugar foot position again. The easiest way to get yourself upright is to push up from your hands and knees.
-
Step 5
Practice the hip cut until you can do it as one fluid movement. The hit cut takes 2 to 3 seconds to perform at full speed.
