Car maintenance can be overwhelming, but you don't need to run off to the mechanic or dealership just to replace a headlight or tail light. Simply pull out your manual and take a look at the instructions. In the book, you'll find the type of replacement bulb you need to buy, along with instructions about how to replace the bulb.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Ask someone to help with inspecting the lights. If no one can, park in front of a building with windows so that you can see the reflection of the lights.

  2. Step 2

Check the headlights by switching on and off the high beams. If the lights don't go on, you will need to change the corresponding headlamp.

  3. Step 3

Turn the direction of the car so that your tail lights are facing the wall. Make sure your head lights are still on.

  4. Step 4

Look in your rear view mirror to see if your rear tail lights light up. If the corresponding tail light does not light up, change the appropriate light bulb.

  5. Step 5

Step on your brakes to see if both tail lights light up. If the corresponding tail light does not light up, change the bulb.

  6. Step 6

Turn your directional on for both left and right turns. Make sure they each blink. If not, change the corresponding light bulb.
