How to Do the Foot Delay Move in Hacky Sack

Playing hacky sack just for fun or for competition requires learning the fundamental skill called "foot stall" or "foot delay." Once you master this skill, you can expound on it to learn more skills as well as create your own style of hacky sack.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Practice tossing the foot bag in your hand. Get a feel of how the foot bag lands in the center of your hand as you catch it. Each time you catch it, allow your arm to spring down, sort of a "cushion" catch. Realize that the foot stall or foot delay move in hacky sack works this way on your foot.

  2. Step 2

    Imitate this movement with your favorite foot—right or left. Lift and balance the foot bag on the middle part of your foot. Bring the foot bag back down with your foot.

  3. Step 3

    Hit the foot bag a couple of times by lifting it up with the foot and, sort of, gently kick it up in the air, and then let it land back down on the middle of your foot, like a stop cushion.

  4. Step 4

    Let the foot bag rest in the center of your foot and keep your balance while standing on one foot.

  5. Step 5

    Start again and breathe freely as you find your rhythm to this basic hacky sack skill. Don't be frustrated if it takes a full day to learn the foot stall in hacky sack.

  6. Step 6

    Try practicing to music or with another friend. If you get carried away, the day goes by fast and you become a foot stall master more quickly.
