How to Do a Front Handspring Rebound in Gymnastics

The front handspring is a skill that is more difficult than a front walkover but less complicated than a front twist. In gymnastics the front handspring rebound will prepare the gymnast for future combination elements such as adding a front tuck or front layout.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Warm up. Before any gymnastics workout the body needs to be prepared. Start with cardio and stretching warm ups to get the blood moving and the muscles ready to go.

  2. Step 2

    Practice first before attempting more complicated elements. In order to master the front handspring rebound, the gymnast has to know how to do a front walkover, handstand hop and a front handspring step out.

  3. Step 3

    Get ready to rebound. The front handspring needs a lot of power to rotate the body in a full circle. The gymnast must focus hard on this drill with tremendous concentration.

  4. Step 4

    Begin with running. Keep arms by the side while running along the floor mat then lunge forward and release hands to the ground. Keep arms very tight and close to head with legs straight.

  5. Step 5

    Tilt head slightly while flipping over. The tight body position and firm arms is how the body gets the power to fully rotate. This is the most critical step to successfully complete the front handspring rebound.

  6. Step 6

    Hang tight. As the body is in the air in a handstand position the legs should be close together with toes pointed.

  7. Step 7

    Hold it. Land the front handspring rebound with feet together and pounce up into the air. This pounce will provide the momentum to add another element to this skill. Remember to hold that landing.
