How to Get Guitar Maintenance Tools
Like any musical instrument, your guitar requires good care and regular maintenance. The exact tools and products that you keep on hand to maintain your guitar will vary depending upon whether you have an electric, steel-string acoustic or classical guitar; however, all guitarists need implements for cleaning, tuning, stringing and storing their instruments.

1
Select your restringing supplies. Keep extra strings on hand, as well as a peg winder and a pair of small wire cutters to trim the strings.
-
2
Have cleaning supplies. Use soft, lint-free cloths to wipe down your guitar. You also need guitar polish for the body and the fret board.

3
Keep some small tools on hand, such as a wrench and screwdriver, particularly if you play electric guitar. You need these items to adjust neck curvature and set the intonation.
-
4
Store your guitar safely using the right equipment. Keep it in its case, or set it on a guitar stand or wall hanger when you are not playing it. Use a support stand for the neck when you lay the guitar out for maintenance. Get a stringed instrument humidifier to use during winter, in air-conditioned environments or in dry climates.

Pick out your tuning equipment. A tuning fork will work, but an electronic tuner is more versatile. A pitch pipe is another option but is perhaps not as accurate as the electronic tuner.

Tips & Warnings
Wipe down your guitar after each playing to remove sweat and skin oils from its surface.
Wiping down the strings and fret board after playing will preserve the life of a set of strings, which lose their tonal quality as they accumulate sweat and oils from your hands.
Do not wipe your guitar with paper towels, which can scratch the finish. Do not use furniture polish or wax on the guitar's finish, as it will leave a buildup on the wood and alter the tone.
