Step 1
Start with a set of well-painted, healthy nails. Nails should be clean with the rough edges buffed away, and cuticles should be pushed back.
-
Step 2
Purchase a clear bottle of top coat that is made especially to stop the chipping. You can find these at some drug stores in the nail care department for a nominal charge. Beauty supply stores will also have more of a selection and information on these types of nail polishes.
-
Step 3
Apply your no-chip top coat to your French manicure at least every 3 days to keep nails looking well-groomed. Depending on your lifestyle and how you care for your hands, you may need to apply this everyday.
-
Step 4
Keep your hands out of bleach and harsh detergents as much as possible. The chemicals in detergent and even water itself can wear down the polish and leave your nails open to chipping.
-
Step 5
Wear gloves when cleaning or washing dishes so that your French manicure will last longer. Care for your nails as you do your hands.
