Flamenco came originally from AndalucĂa in Southern Spain and the flamenco guitar style is world renowned. This lively performing style must provide accompaniment to the same fiery energy as flamenco singing and dancing. The flamenco style requires nimble fingers to perform the quick tempo arpeggios of Latin music.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Play the individual notes within the chord to create the arpeggio. The notes of the arpeggio are accentuated during play to create a robust melodic line. This highlighting of each note creates a cadence for both flamenco singers and dancers.

  2. Step 2

Use the thumb, index and middle finger of the right hand to play the arpeggio. This is a more standard approach to playing arpeggios in flamenco guitar playing.

  3. Step 3

Perform the arpeggios using the thumb, index, middle and ring finger. This variation is used by many performers.

  4. Step 4

Try a variation of these finger placements. Easy flowing movements develop after finding a level of comfort. With practice comes expertise and with expertise comes a personal style.
