How to Work With Freeze Frames and De-Interlacing in Final Cut Pro 5

The Apple Corporation created a video editing software called Final Cut Pro. This software allows users to freeze frame as well as de-interlace videos. Freeze frame is when videos are paused for a short time on a single frame. De-interlacing frames removes flicker from a freeze frame. Flicker is when one part of a frame moves slightly during a freeze frame. Final Cut Pro 5 makes it easy to freeze and de-interlace these frames.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Pull your video up in Final Cut Pro 5 by importing the video into the program. Choose the frame you want to freeze. Click on the time line at the bottom to mark where you want the freeze frame in the movie.

  2. Step 2

Go to the top of your screen and click on "Modify." This opens a menu. Click "Freeze Frame." The frame you froze shows up in the viewer.

  3. Step 3

Click on the frame and move it down into the time line at the marker. A Final Cut Pro menu appears that asks you how long you want to freeze the frame.

  4. Step 4

Choose the time you want to have the frame frozen and click "OK."

  5. Step 5

Select the "Text" tab. Scroll down to find "Video Filters" and click on it. Move the cursor to "Video Bin" and find "De-interlace."

  6. Step 6

Click on "De-interlace." Drag it onto the time line above "Freeze Frame." Edit the properties of the De-interlacing through the "Filter" tab. Change the frame's dominants in that tab. Click "OK" when finished.
