Weave poles are said to be one of the more difficult agility courses you can teach a dog. After consistent training with the dog, you too can teach your dog to weave through poles in an agility course. Just follow these steps.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Get your dog's attention.
Your dog will need to have a certain amount of respect and discipline to attempt pole weaving. This will include listening to you and paying attention to your commands with rewards.

  2. Step 2

Line the weave poles in a staggered position. This will allow the dog to pass through with minimal to no weaving. This will give the dog a basic understanding of what is expected of him with each pole. Complete this task several times to ensure proper understanding between you and the dog.

  3. Step 3

Move the poles closer together creating a tight space for the dog to pass through. You will notice the dog moving its body slightly to pass through all the poles. This is the beginning of the weaving process.

  4. Step 4

Reward the dog after every completed task. This will encourage the dog to continue with excitement.

  5. Step 5

Push the poles together so they are aligned straight. This will require the dog to make a full weave motion in order to get to the end of the course and receive his reward.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never scold a dog for not performing properly. Some dogs take many months or years to train for a single stunt. A positive attitude will help encourage the dog to do its best.
