A sport that has grown tremendously in popularity in recent years is disc golf. Although the sport is often referred to as "Frisbee" golf, the proper equipment for the game barely resembles the child's toy. Choosing the right discs is crucial in getting a good start at this popular pastime.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide on a price range you're willing to spend. Disc golf is a relatively inexpensive game, and basic discs for beginners start around $10. Keep in mind that cheaper products may be less durable. If you are a more advanced player, consider pricier discs that have features that can help streamline your skills.

  2. Step 2

Consider which types of discs you will need. While disc golf can be played with only one disc in your bag, most players use three basic types: a driver, a mid-range or approach and a putter. Drivers emphasize distance, mid-range discs are more accurate and putters are designed to hit the basket closely and stay inside.

  3. Step 3

Determine the proper weight for the disc. The different types of discs have varying weights based on the purpose they serve. Within each group, there are different increments of weight to help you determine how much power you wish to use to throw the disc.

  4. Step 4

Predict the level of accuracy you may need for different shots. How experienced a player you are will help decide if you want a disc that consistently turns hard left, one that turns right and flattens out or one that goes straight all the time. Plus, the type of shot often determines the accuracy you want from the disc.
