Every good DJ is more than a one-trick pony; they have a lot of novel ideas and scratches in their repertoire. You can learn the two-click flare and add the scratch to what you already know to create a lot more variety.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin with a record that has a long sound or a single held note. This type works best for the execution of the two-click flare. Mark the beginning and the end of the sound.

  2. Step 2

Push the record on the turntable forward while you have the fader set in the middle.

  3. Step 3

Make two clicks on the fader by pushing the fader to the left or to the right quickly. After it's pushed to the side, bring it back to the middle and push it to the same side again. Do this in rapid succession.

  4. Step 4

Pull the record back to the original position. It should have reached the end-point mark.

  5. Step 5

Click the fader twice in the same way, rapidly, as you pull it back to the start marker.

  6. Step 6

Repeat the process of pushing the record forward. This time, quickly double the movement of the fader to two clicks, back to the middle and two clicks again.

  7. Step 7

Pull the record and practice a double-click and repeat the double-click. The two-click flare must be done rapidly.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get the rhythm of the beat to make this scratch sound good. It takes some practice to get the movement with the beat so that it sounds right.
  • The two-click flare is also known as the "orbit."
