In disc golf, the forehand throw is a basic skill to know, though it is not as common as the backhand. It can help you get around obstacles, and it doesn't require as much arm strength as other throws. Once you have practiced the forehand throw, you can navigate many holes that would otherwise be intimidating.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visualize your shot. Forehand throws are great for getting around obstacles such as trees or hills. If you are right-handed, use the forehand throw to curve your shot from left to right.

  2. Step 2

Place one or two fingers under the lip on the underside of the disc. Grip the top of the disc firmly, but not too tightly, with your thumb.

  3. Step 3

Place your left foot forward if you are throwing right-handed.

  4. Step 4

Bring your arm and wrist back, perpendicular from your body. This is your backswing.

  5. Step 5

Power your arm forward from your elbow to begin your throw.

  6. Step 6

Snap your wrist forward. As you do this, the disc should slip out of your fingers and fly toward your target on a curved path.

  7. Step 7

Follow through with your arm across your body. This will ensure a smooth, controlled throw.

  8. Step 8

Bring your arm across your body at an upward angle during your throw to get your disc higher in the air. With practice, you can get the disc to roll on its edge after it lands.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a more controlled disc golf forehand, tuck your elbow into your side as you execute shot. Keep your elbow out for more power and distance.
  • Once you are used to throwing forehand, practice stepping into your throw for more power and distance.
