Slow Latin rhythms and passionate exchanges between the dance partners is what draws so many people to dance the rumba. This dance gets even spicier when you add a crossover break with a turn. Read on to see how ladies can successfully add this dance to their rumba repertoire.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin in the traditional rumba dancing position. Place one hand on the man's shoulder. He holds your other hand up in the air with his hand.

  2. Step 2

Step backward with your right foot and then left with your left foot. Bring your right foot in and snap it next to your left foot. Your shoes should make a clicking sound when they come together.

  3. Step 3

Move to your left with your left foot. Step forward with your right foot and rock back onto your left foot.

  4. Step 4

Allow your partner to move you around the floor as you dance the rumba. Repeat the rocking footwork in the step above when you face the other direction.

  5. Step 5

Repeat the rocking steps with your partner, allowing him to move you across the floor as you dance the rumba.

  6. Step 6

Add a turn when you let go of the man's shoulder and hold onto his hand with your hand. Spin around as your partner guides you in the direction that you are dancing.

  7. Step 7

Start from the beginning and continue the steps of the rumba, adding a turn whenever you feel like it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always maintain eye contact with your partner as you dance the rumba. As you build a dancing relationship with one another, you'll be able to use this eye contact to communicate which direction you'll head next and when you'll throw in a turn.
