How to Do a Men's Crossover Break With a Turn During the Rumba

The flirty feel of the rumba is one reason why some people call it the "Dance of Love." Unfortunately, you only feel the love and passion of the rumba when you dance confidently, knowing that you have all the steps down. A crossover break with a turn is just one step of the rumba that you can use to make your girl swoon.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place your right hand on the woman's back. Your left hand should hold her hand in the air in a typical rumba stance.

  2. Step 2

Step forward with your right foot. In a smooth motion, step directly right with your right foot and snap your feet together by bringing your left foot next to your right foot.

  3. Step 3

Move your right foot to the right, turning your entire body to the right as you move. Step forward with your left foot and rock back onto your right foot.

  4. Step 4

Bring your left arm down, still holding the woman's hand, as the woman slightly backs away from you.

  5. Step 5

Switch hands and gracefully turn so you face the other direction. Step out of your turn to the left with your left foot.

  6. Step 6

Return to your starting position after you step forward with your right foot and rock back onto your left foot. This should leave your feet very close to where they were when you began.

  7. Step 7

Rock to the right by placing your left foot forward and then back again.

  8. Step 8

Face your right and step backward with your left foot. Drag your right foot across the floor, and then step back slightly with your right foot.

  9. Step 9

Use your hand to guide the woman as she turns. Remove your right hand from her back and guide her using your left hand, which should remain clasped with her hand.

  10. Step 10

Replace your right hand on her back. Step back with your left foot, rock forward with your right foot and then step forward again with your left foot.

  11. Step 11

Repeat these steps to the beat of the music. Rumba has a classic slow-quick-quick beat throughout the dance.
