Step 1
Understand what the cross fader and channel control do. The cross fader is what you use to switch between tracks and discs. The cross fader has two different sides, they correspond with the two turntables, generally named A and B. The channel control helps you control the levels on each channel.
-
Step 2
Learn the levels available on each channel. While they may differ slightly with each set of turntables, they are basically the same. Each channel has volume control; and equalizer with lows, mids and highs; a pan switch for stereo sound; and inputs. The inputs are often for microphones, phone online switches and headphones.

Step 3
Start up a track on one of the sides, A or B--it doesn't really matter. Make sure the cross fader is on the side you are using. Play with the corresponding channel control to hear its different functions. Start up the opposite side and use the cross fader to switch between the two and blend them by putting the cross fader switch in the middle.

Step 4
Practice these controls and techniques. It is important to practice any DJ or turntable techniques to become familiar with the technique and the equipment. With a lot of practice and a little creativity, you can become a popular disc jockey who stays busy in this fun field.
