Instructions

    • 1

Collect your candle molds. Your project will determine the size, shape and type of molds you need. Make sure you have mold sealer to cover the wick hole in the mold. See Resources below for places to buy candle-making supplies.

    • 2

Choose scents that you would like to use for your candles. Natural scents are the safest to use.

    • 3

Use a liquid dye that is in a small, squeezable bottle. This will allow you to squeeze small drops of dye into your wax so you can achieve your desired depth of color.

    • 4

Choose your wax for candle making. Use paraffin, tallow, bayberry, soy or beeswax. Depending on the type of wax, you may need to add additives to the wax, such as stearic acid to harden the wax if necessary. Other additives may clarify or add sheen to the wax.

    • 5

Have a wick pin or wooden pick to hold the wick in the candle mold. This should be long enough to rest on the top of the mold so the wick won't fall in and can be pulled taught.

    • 6

Apply pressed flowers, glitter or even multiple colors for different candle designs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be cautious if you're doing candle making with children. The wax can burn the skin.
